Starting February 1, 2023, the  Durham County Detention Center will no longer process personal mail (letters, cards, pictures, drawings, etc) at the facility. All mail will be processed offsite using a "mailscan" system through our vendor ViaPath Technologies. There, it will be scanned and sent digitally to the recipient. All personal mail received at the previous address will be returned to the sender beginning on this date.

Anyone wishing to send personal mail to a resident of the Durham County Detention Center will now need to address their correspondence to:

Durham County Detention Center, NC
Recipient Name and ID Number
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

*We recommend using this address at least 10 days in advance of the change to avoid mail being returned to you.

This address is for personal correspondence only. Legal mail, books, and packages must still be sent to the current address and MUST include the inmate’s first, middle and last name.

P.O. Box 771
Durham, NC 27702

As a reminder, never send cash, checks, or money orders as they will not be accepted.

If anyone using the mailscan system has questions, concerns, or needs to report a delivery issue contact info@TextBehind.com
